Un PO di Bicicletta
The "Un Po di Bicicletta" road book describes a route of about 500 km of bike paths; art, culture, and nature are the common denominators of the entire provincial territory, where the rural landscape represents the true soul of the places.
Cyclotourism is now an important part of the tourism sector. Our province is also gearing up to become increasingly attractive to cycling tourists, including those from our own region. Those who love excursions and cycling will find unique and special opportunities in our territory, to experience along the endless "paths of the heart."
Starting from the capital, Pavia, the ancient capital of the Po Valley, always a crossroads of cultures, you then enter the countryside and the Renaissance atmosphere of the Certosa. Beyond the Ticino River lies Lomellina, where it's easy to be amazed by the beauty of Vigevano's square. It’s also easy to enjoy the profound silence along the paths of the Via Francigena, or to lose yourself in the watercolor hues of rice fields reflecting towers and bell towers.
Here, the dense network of pedestrian and cycling paths, interspersed with birdwatching points, invites you to admire these environmental treasures with a slow, active approach. The many heronries (areas where herons nest) complete the offering of a tourism focused on discovery and emotion, which is becoming increasingly popular.
To the south, the Oltrepò Pavese with its gently sloping hills, roads winding between vineyards that rise and fall regularly, valleys that open to the visitor in all their beauty, Apennine ridges along the Via del Sale and the Via del Mare offer breathtaking views, medieval villages, abbeys, castles, and the unmissable Pietra Corva Alpine Garden with its 1,300 botanical species.
In addition, there is an invaluable hydromineral heritage, allowing four thermal resorts to make the most of the beneficial effects of the waters. Art, culture, and nature are the common thread throughout the entire provincial territory, which finds its synthesis in a cuisine of excellence, a traditional cuisine of quality, and a rural landscape that is the true soul of the places—or, as one might say, the true place of the soul.
As Marcel Proust wrote, “The real journey is not about finding new lands, but seeing with new eyes.” We all have a strong need for these eyes today. And by cycling, it will be easier to enjoy them.
