The Province of Pavia, a land of rivers and canals, is crossed by the Ticino and Po rivers, which meet 4 km south of Pavia and divide it into three areas: the Pavese, entirely located in the Po Valley to the northeast; the Lomellina, also in the Po Valley to the northwest, between the Ticino and Po rivers; and the Oltrepò, situated in the Apennine territory to the south.
