Living Nativity Scene in the Ancient Village of Zavattarello
The magic of Christmas in the historic medieval hamlet “Su di Dentro”, in the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese
The tradition of the Living Nativity returns to Zavattarello, celebrating Christmas with a unique re-enactment set against the evocative backdrop of the medieval village “Su di Dentro”.
The birth of Jesus is portrayed through a reconstruction of valley life as it once was: inside 13th-century houses, along medieval alleys, and among the still-working ancient tools preserved in the “Magazzino dei Ricordi” Museum. Visitors are invited to step back in time and rediscover the past together.
This Living Nativity offers an immersive experience where everyone can feel part of the scene. Each setting along the path leading to the manger faithfully recreates daily life as it was long ago, with activities that were once part of everyday routine.
It feels like travelling back in time, not as mere spectators, but as active participants in a world that, although ancient, remains close to our hearts. Guests can taste freshly baked bread, drink new wine, touch spun wool, and feel the fleece of sheep tended in their enclosures.
This is our way of celebrating the birth of Jesus together with all of you, inviting not only to watch the re-enactment, but to take part in it.
Organised by the Cultural Association “Presepe e Passione”.
In case of bad weather, the event will be suspended.
