Chestnut and Homemade Bread Fair
The flavors of autumn come alive in the Apennines of Pavia
The flavors of autumn come alive in the Apennines of Pavia with the Chestnut and Homemade Bread Fair in Brallo di Pregola — a perfect way to spend a pleasant day surrounded by autumn foliage while rediscovering the authentic tradition of homemade bread, prepared the old-fashioned way and baked in wood-fired ovens located in every hamlet of the municipality.
Local product and craft stalls will welcome visitors in the Town Hall Square on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
In the afternoon, tastings will continue with chestnut cakes and pastries, while roasted chestnuts — the undisputed stars of the fair — will be served throughout the day, accompanied by hot mulled wine.
At the local restaurants, themed autumn menus will be available.
Starting from 10 a.m. in the Town Hall Square, visitors will find stands featuring local crafts and traditional food products, including the renowned homemade bread baked in wood-fired ovens as it was in the past.
Local delicacies will abound: the Pro Loco will open its stand offering cakes, chestnut desserts, roasted chestnuts, hot chocolate, and fragrant mulled wine. The Alpini Group of Brallo will host visitors in its marquee for a traditional lunch of polenta, lentils, and cooked salami. For the occasion, restaurants will offer special menus dedicated to seasonal products.
For those who wish to combine taste with nature, the fair also offers a unique experience: the Walk Among the Centuries-Old Chestnut Trees, organized by FAI Giovani Oltrepò Pavese. This light and evocative excursion is a chance to admire the autumn foliage and discover the natural beauty of the area, surrounded by monumental trees that tell centuries of history.
Entertainment will not be lacking — between a cup of mulled wine and a stroll through the hobby market, visitors will enjoy live folk music in the square throughout the day.
