Dicovering Monte Lesima

Trekking in the province of Pavia

A new episode of “Discover Oltrepò by Walking,” the Team Oltrepò series curated by Micaela Cazzaniga, dedicated to nature and hiking!

Today, Micaela takes us to the summit of Monte Lesima with a round-trip hike of about 14 km. It’s not particularly difficult, but it's definitely worth it for the breathtaking views from the top!

The hike starts at Cima Colletta, where you can park near the Nassano refuge, which is unfortunately closed.

From there, you have two options to reach the summit:

  1. Follow the fully paved road all the way to the top of Monte Lesima.
  2. Walk a short stretch of asphalt road until you reach a fork with signs pointing to "Lesima." At that point, take the dirt trail through the woods.

The forest trail has some ups and downs, while the paved road is mostly flat, except for the last 1 km, which is steeper.

Monte Lesima stands at 1,724 meters, and the view from the top is absolutely stunning! At the summit, you'll find an ENAV radar station for aeronautical use and a large cross.

A fun fact!
It is said that Monte Lesima got its name from an incident involving Hannibal, the Carthaginian commander. While camped in the Trebbia Valley, he climbed the mountain and injured his hand. From the Latin "Iesa manus" (injured hand) came the name "Lesima."

During my hike, I came across some wolf tracks, indicating the possible presence of this magnificent predator, as well as signs of ungulates!
