Following the huge success of last year's two events, the picturesque Borgo di Porana di Pizzale (PV) is set to relive the magic of Candlelight concerts, the candlelit music series organised by Associazione Porana Eventi. On Saturday 1 August, an evening tribute to Ornella Vanoni, Gino Paoli and the giants of international music.

What Are Candlelight Concerts

Candlelight concerts are live, experiential musical events that reinvent the way classical and contemporary music is enjoyed: intimate venues of great historical or natural value are transformed by scenic lighting made up entirely of hundreds of candles. The absence of artificial light creates an intimate, multi-sensory atmosphere that feels suspended in time, where listening blends with visual wonder.

The Event: Saturday 1 August 2026

The concert is scheduled for Saturday 1 August at 9.15pm in the Borgo di Porana: the exact setting, outdoors or inside the historic church of San Crispino, will be decided based on weather conditions.

Performing on the night are maestros Luca Torciani (violin), Maria Grazia Guerra (violin) and Paola Barbieri (piano), who will take the audience on a timeless emotional journey. The programme ranges from a refined tribute to Ornella Vanoni and Gino Paoli in the first half, through rock and pop classics by Queen, the Beatles and Pink Floyd, to some of the most celebrated film scores by Ennio Morricone and Nicola Piovani.

Music, Memory and Solidarity

The evening also carries a strong bond with the local community: the concert is held in memory of Manuela Taverna and Pier Paolo Ferrari. Entry is by free-will donation, and all proceeds will go to the Parish of Porana to help fund the restoration of the bell chamber, a defining landmark of the village.

Porana di Pizzale, Between Art and Nature in the Oltrepò

The initiative is promoted by Associazione Porana Eventi, active since the 1990s in promoting the local area and raising funds for the conservation of its artistic heritage, starting with the church of San Crispino — of seventeenth-century origin with a neo-Gothic façade — which stands next to Villa Meroni, set within a centuries-old park with an Italian garden. A small village in the Oltrepò Pavese that, for one night, becomes a candlelit stage.
