On Sunday 13 December 2026, Varzi, a medieval village in the Upper Staffora Valley, becomes Christmas’s next stop. Varzi – Destination Christmas is a day organised by Nuova Pro Loco Varzi, with the collaboration of the Municipality and the association I Borghi più belli d’Italia (The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy). It is designed for those who wait for Christmas counting the days, daydreaming and marvelling at every light and every surprise.

This is not just any Christmas. The motto of the event is “One stop, a thousand ways to celebrate”, and the journey is open to everyone, from 0 to 100 years old.

First stop: Santa’s House

The journey begins at Santa’s House, where Santa Claus himself will be waiting for the children. The real one, the organisers promise, with a beard to prove it. It is the meeting the little ones look forward to most, and the perfect starting point for a day full of wonder.

One stop after another: the children’s journey

After Santa, the programme continues with a series of stops dedicated to children:

Creative workshops set imaginations in motion and let children make Christmas decorations and small crafts with their own hands. Wooden games invite them to play in a simple, old-fashioned way, far from screens. Music, entertainment and baby dance get even the youngest dancing, while a play area to be fully enjoyed leaves children free to have fun at their own pace. The organisers also hint that the surprises are not over: part of the programme has yet to be revealed.

A stop for grown-ups too

While the children travel through the magic of Christmas, mums, dads, grandparents and friends have stops of their own. The Christmas Wood and the Christmas Market invite visitors to stroll among the stalls and look for gift ideas. Mulled wine, hot chocolate and Christmas specialities warm the afternoon, amid lights, colours and flavours.

The message is simple: Christmas belongs to children, but the wonder of seeing them happy belongs to everyone.

Why head to Varzi

A historic village decked out for the holidays, the joy of children and the pleasure of being together. Varzi is a destination for a family outing, a day with friends or a trip for three generations. As the Pro Loco’s invitation puts it, no ticket is needed and no suitcase either, but do bring all your travelling companions.

Christmas is on its way, and this year it has chosen to stop in Varzi.
