Bicycle Touring
You go fairly fast to get a taste of the breeze and speed; you go fairly slow to get a look at the countryside and take a plunge into nature and its smells. This is how Margherita Hack described the pleasure of pedalling.
In the Province of Pavia you can discover bike routes and gravel roads which lead you through the luminous beauty of the plains, surrounded by rice fields and centuries-old cascina farmhouses, until you ride into the sunset along endless rows of grape vines among the hills of Oltrepo Pavese. You can follow the great river Po along its banks as it placidly flows toward the sea, and find peace among the woods and beaches of the river Ticino, the blue river following Eurovelo1, the Via Francigena, and any one of the hundreds of trails in the Ticino Park. The more hardened among you will want to ride as high as the Apennines, and the Mount Penice, Mount Lesima and Mount Chiappo, following the old Salt Roads, where the scent of the sea will draw you towards the Italian Riviera.
