Le Folaghe Park
Casei Gerola oasis
The Le Folaghe Intermunicipal Natural Park (P.L.I.S.) is a nature reserve located in the municipality of Casei Gerola (managing entity) and has been part of the International Waterfowl Census (IWC) since 1994.
The park is situated in the province of Pavia, in a strategic location in the heart of the Po Valley, between the municipalities of Casei Gerola and Silvano Pietra, covering an area of 70 hectares.
Thanks to former clay extraction pits, now flooded by groundwater, and its proximity to the Po River and the Apennines, the park serves as an ideal stopover for migratory birds. A total of 260 species have been recorded here, including remarkable visitors such as the Whiskered Tern, the Pacific Golden Plover, and the Eurasian Dotterel. Not to be missed—the Corn Crake!
Visitors are welcome in the park, and everyone is invited to follow a few simple rules to respect the park and the natural elements it preserves.

Due to its particular geographic position along the migration routes of many bird species, the park is of special zoological interest. The variety of habitats—including bodies of water of varying depths and wooded areas—within a broader landscape dominated by intensive agriculture has made it an important research site for ornithological studies.
These carefully managed environmental restorations attract visitors, guided tours, associations, institutions (such as the Province of Pavia), school groups, and birdwatching enthusiasts.
