Our whistlestop tour through the flavours of the Oltrepò Pavese  concludes in Golferenzo, a charming village in the Valle Versa with fantastic views over its extensive vineyards.

It is no surprise therefore that the village’s most important resource is wine, thanks to a combination of high-quality grapes harvested and selected by hand and vinified according to the centuries-old methods of local families  (helped by the some of most modern wine-making equipment available) and a surprisingly high concentration of wine growers and outstanding wineries. Here the standouts wines are a lively Pinot Nero, Riesling and sparkling Moscato, as well as Barbera, Bonarda, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Merlot.  
In addition to its wineries, this tranquil little stone village of 180 inhabitants with a history dating back to the Lombards (6th to 8th centuries) has managed to impeccably preserve its historic centre in spite of many invaders and occupies that passed through the region up until the end of the Second World War. In addition to its old centre, the Church of St. Nicholas and the ruins of the  Castello di Golferenzo are also worth a visit, the latter now consisting of a tower incorporated into another building and which, according to local lore, once served as a prison.
