Pavia, City of Walking Routes 2026
Walks along religious-cultural itineraries to discover the routes and paths of Pavia
Following last year’s success, the Municipality of Pavia is relaunching the project “Pavia, City of Walking Routes,” an initiative designed to promote the cultural, religious, and natural itineraries that cross the city. A calendar of guided tours will lead residents and visitors along ten routes, offering an immersive experience to discover the Pavia area.
Pavia, a crossroads of European routes
Located in a strategic position, Pavia has for centuries been an important crossroads of European itineraries, particularly along the Via Francigena. “Pavia is a European crossroads for cultural and religious routes and paths.”
The initiative stems from a careful analysis of the target audience, supported by a survey that helped better understand participants’ needs and improve the tourism offer.
Ten routes, three different experiences
The 2026 edition of “Pavia, City of Walking Routes” introduces a division of itineraries into three macro-categories, designed to meet different interests and enhance the local heritage from multiple perspectives:
-
Historical and cultural itineraries: four routes led by tourism professionals to discover monuments, traditions, and the identity of the area.
-
Nature trails: three walks focused on the environment, guided by experts with specific naturalistic knowledge.
-
Trekking routes: three itineraries designed for outdoor enthusiasts, led by experienced hiking guides.
Each route is associated with a keyword, created to build a coherent narrative thread and make each experience unique and recognizable.
The Walking Passport and dedicated services
Among the most appreciated features is the return of the “Walking Passport,” a tool that allows participants to collect stamps for each completed route—an engaging way to experience the initiative and encourage participation in multiple walks.
A return transfer service from the arrival point to the starting point is also provided for all walks, except for the final one, which takes place entirely within the historic city center.
Free participation and increased capacity
Compared to 2025, the maximum number of participants has increased to 60 people per event. Participation is free, but booking is mandatory. Walks will take place in all weather conditions.
Starting with the Walk of Saint Augustine
The first event is scheduled for March 29 at 8:30 a.m., with a route dedicated to Saint Augustine, a symbolic figure of the city. This itinerary combines spirituality, history, and landscape, opening a season of experiences designed to explore Pavia step by step.
A project for slow tourism in the Province of Pavia
“Pavia, City of Walking Routes” is part of a broader strategy to promote slow tourism in the Province of Pavia, enhancing sustainable and accessible routes—an opportunity to experience the area authentically, through culture, nature, and well-being.
A shared narrative thread
Each walk is associated with a keyword chosen to guide storytelling, experience, and interpretation of the route, helping to build a recognizable and shared narrative identity.
Included services
-
Lunch box and walking map provided to all participants
-
Return transfer service, also using local public transport (except for the final walk in the city center)
-
At the end of each walk, participants receive the Walking Passport, stamped by the Municipality of Pavia to certify the completed route
