Church of Saint Lazzaro
The small church rises far away from the city centre of Pavia along the ancient Francigena road
Standing on the Via Francigena, the splendid church of Saint Lazzaro, founded with the adjacent hospital in 1157 and built in its present form in the thirteenth century, is one of the oldest leper hospitals in Italy.
The gabled façade comprises all the elements typical of the Romanesque style, while in the apsidal conch there are traces of frescoes dating from the period in which the church was built.
